Before Shipping your vehicle - auto transport and car shipping

Q: How far in advance should I schedule the transport of my vehicle?

A: You can generally get transportation for your vehicle within 24-48 hours, if necessary. However, it is best to give at least 7 days for the transportation to be arranged.

Q: How is the cost calculated?

A: Each company is different, however, in most cases you will pay a fee to the transportation broker who arranges the move, and pay the actual trucking company/driver. Costs will depend on the broker fee and the pickup location and destination of your vehicle. In general, moves between major cities along interstate highways are easier to arrange and will cost less. TRANSPORT EXPERTS’ prices are all inclusive. Further, there is no deposit required to place an order.  If your vehicle is in not running condition there will be added fee depending on the size and weight of the vehicle. The reason for this is because it requires a specially equipped truck to load and unload vehicles that do not run. The average additional charge for a non running vehicle is $100.

Q. How long will the transport take, and is pick-up and delivery time guaranteed?

A. Normally depending on your first available date for shipping, it takes only a couple of days to load, and the delivery time is determined by the distance to be traveled. We try to do our very best to deliver on a scheduled date. However, the length of a transport depends on many factors, and no auto shipping company, TRANSPORT EXPERTS included, can totally guarantee a delivery date. Distances and locations involved, as well as conditions such as weather, road traffic, mechanical function and Department of Transportation’s regulations are among the concerns the drivers are constantly contending with. So, please keep this in mind during all phases of your transport, and rest assured that we are making every effort to get your vehicle to you on time.

Q: Why choose a Broker instead of a Carrier?

A: You can arrange your vehicle transport directly with the carrier or through a broker. There is no one Carrier that can own enough trucks to move their own freight throughout all states of USA in a timely manner. Accordingly, it is very common for carriers to broker out their customers' vehicles. Brokers maintain large network of carriers covering all routes across USA and more. Further, brokers' reputation depends on carriers' reliability and good driving records therefore it is in brokers best interest to ensure that the carriers they use are well qualified for moving your vehicle.

TRANSPORT EXPERTS maintains a well established base of carriers who provide highest quality auto transportation. Once you have accepted our auto transport quote, we will provide you with all the information you need to prepare your vehicle for transport, as well as the proof of carrier liability insurance, and carrier contact information. We will then follow transport of your vehicle from the time of pickup until the the time of delivery so that the whole experience is efficient and worry free.

Q: How do I know my vehicle will get to its destination safely?

A:
You need to make sure the broker who arranges the transportation uses licensed, bonded, and insured truck drivers with good driving records. TRANSPORT EXPERTS continuously reviews driving records and insurance compliance of each carrier and discontinues using trucking companies that have poor driving records, unreliable transportation times, or a history of delivery problems. Further, upon a request we will provide you with a copy of carrier’s insurance and authority papers.

Q: How do I prepare my vehicle for transportation?

A: Have no more that 1/4 tank of fuel. Remove all personal items from your vehicle. Federal and State Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations prohibit the transport of personal goods in vehicles being transported by auto carriers. Please keep this in mind, and you may, at your discretion, place a few items in the trunk, but remember items are not inventoried or covered by carrier’s insurance. Repair any chips and/or cracks in your windows and make sure your vehicle is prepared for changing weather conditions. When your vehicle is picked up, you and the driver should carefully review the condition of the vehicle. Be sure you receive a signed document from the driver describing the condition thoroughly.

Q. What if I am not available for pick-up/drop-off?

A. If you are unavailable, at the pick-up or delivery locations, we ask that you make arrangements with a relative, friend or neighbor to meet the driver. This appointed person will have to sign the inspection form at pickup, or the acceptance of delivery of the vehicle. If it is impossible to make arrangements with another person for delivery, the vehicle will be dropped off and stored in a secure terminal facility for your pickup there. A daily fee will be applied for storage at the terminal, so we suggest every effort be made for arrangements of vehicle delivery.

Q: What if my vehicle is damaged during shipping?

A: The trucking company/driver's insurance covers damage done to your vehicle in transit. Your personal care insurance is not used. Your personal contents are not covered by any carrier insurance and in most cases if lost, stolen or otherwise will not be covered. If your vehicle becomes damaged in transport first thing you should do is make sure the driver understands that the damage is new and was not on the original bill of lading. The damage should be clearly marked and noted on the inspection report, then signed for by you and the driver. Also, please call our representative to inform us of the damage. In most cases the carrier will ask for an estimate and send you payment in a couple weeks. If the carrier is not responsive and unwilling to work with you to resolve the issue, make sure you contact their insurance company and make a claim. Our company is committed to help you in case there is any problem with your vehicle and will provide you with necessary information and assistance.
